Some of you might be aware that I am allergic to carbohydrates, and my fat cells go into anaphalactic shock as soon as a carb enters my mouth. They grow, swell up and multiply like crazy, carbo-feasting on sugars, wine, pasta, bread, rice, fruit - you name it - any form of carbs. So cutting out all and every carb except for some vegetables (mostly green stuff) has helped me lose a bit of weight - and somehow my body and energy levels just work better on meat, biltong, cheese, ham, eggs, cream and butter. please do not feel sorry for me - just look at my lovely supper. Oven-grilled lamb tjops with courgettes and onion, flavoured with olive oil, cilli and course salt and black pepper - njam, njam.
But back to my clothes. In the old pre-blog days - I would do one of the following with my fat clothes:
1) pack them in the back of my cupboard for when I am fat again
2) pack them in a box and save them for when I am fat again
3) still wear them while they are too big - with a "I paid a lot of money for them and it will be wasteful to get rid of them" attitude.
4) try to pawn them off onto some other unfortunate and unwilling fat person
5) try (unsuccessfully) to alter them and make them smaller
But now I have a brillaint and very final fate for them. I decided to cut them all up into little squares and make some quilts.
It is a bit drastic, but if I DO get fat again - (anything is possible) - I will just have to sew the sides of the quilt together, cut a hole in the middle and wear it kaftan-style (for those of you older than 40 years - think Demis Roussos - LOL). For those of you younger than 40 years - I include a picture for reference.
I will keep you up to date on my fat-quilt challenge - and it should be ready for next winter, or maybe for a lovely summer picnic (ham, cheese, biltong, water, etc - NO CARBS!!)
But for all of you that can eat carbs and even for those of you that should not be eating carbs, here are some really carbie cookies. When I saw these recipes on Martha Stewart's website, I thought she was a bit bonkers.(her being in jail and all you know). But according to my house assistant - Loveness, as well as my garden assistant - Edwin, they are some of the best cookies I have made so far.
They both use junk-food (no, they are not McDonald cookies!!!)
The first one is called Potato Chip Cookies, and the website describes them as follows :Crunchy, chewy, buttery, salty, and sweet, these addictive treats satisfy every corner of your palate
The recipe makes a huge amount of cookies, so you can feed all the other carbo-fanatics in your immediate vacinity.
The other cookie uses almost every type of sweet stocked in my local Pick-&-Pay. It is called Chocolate Candy Icebox Bars and you do not have to bake them, just use your microwave and your fridge. And your mouth and teeth to chew them.
Just look at all those Kit-Kats and Snickers in the cookies (CARB-ALERT, CARB-ALERT!!!!)
Lastly, tonight I would like to show you one of my recycle challenges. I bought these 3 ugly urns at the local auction for R30. (they look a bit like funeral urns that go on a grave). Found some grey paint in the workshop and showed Edwin a quick technique.
And I must say I love the result - at least my fruit has now got a final resting place - hie-hie-hie.
Next week I am on a road show around the country, so am trying to do most of next week's challenges this weekend so I can keep you and myself entertained.
Lots of flippin cold weather hugs
Lizette
